Legalisation
Document legalisation for Italy, handled properly
Apostille, sworn translation, and the Declaration of Value — the paperwork that decides whether your enrolment goes through on time.
The process
Three stages, in this order
Each stage depends on the one before it. Doing them out of sequence is the single most common reason a file gets sent back.
- Step 1
Apostille or attestation
Your academic and personal documents are authenticated by the issuing authority in India — usually HRD attestation followed by an MEA apostille under the Hague Convention, of which both India and Italy are signatories.
- Step 2
Sworn translation into Italian
Documents must be translated into Italian by a recognised translator. The translation is what Italian institutions read, so accuracy in grades, subject names, and dates is what determines whether it is accepted.
- Step 3
Declaration of Value
The Dichiarazione di Valore is issued by the Italian Embassy or Consulate and states what your qualification is worth in the Italian system. Italian universities will not complete your enrolment without it.
